The Complex Nature of IBS
This combination addresses the complex nature of IBS, involving both physical and psychological components.
By utilizing these methods together, the program provides a holistic solution that targets the gut-brain axis, reduces stress and anxiety, reprograms negative thought patterns, and fosters emotional resilience
Viva Las Vagus! - The mind-gut connection
Have you heard the expression of having a gut feeling about something? Well, there is some truth in that! Known as the second brain, the gut acts and thinks independently from the main central nervous system in the body. The gut Microbiome plays a critical role in the development of the immune system.
Many IBS problems stem from a miscommunication from the stomach to the brain which is directly connected by a channel of special large nerve fibres known as the Vagus nerve. Think of this as a information super-highway between your brain and your gut.

The Gut is clever, but not that clever!
Sometimes, especially when the brain feels anxious and overwhelmed, it signals down information for the gut to deal with. The gut may have a level of intelligence but it is no Einstein, and has no way of processing this. The reaction of the gut's microbes then affects the brain, kicking in a anxiety driven behaviour directed at the gut.
For this reason, stress and anxiety can be the cause of IBS, then the symptoms cause more stress and anxiety, and so the vicious circle continues.
Mind-Gut Connection Therapy
Gut-Directed Hypnotherapy
Gut-directed hypnotherapy is a specialized form of hypnotherapy that targets the gut-brain axis to alleviate symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). We first focus on lowering stress and anxiety. Then, once the cup is empty, we can fill the cup by realigning that mind-gut connection, so the body and mind are working in harmony.
This technique is particularly effective for teenagers as it not only addresses physical symptoms but also reduces stress and anxiety related to IBS.
Neuro Linguistic Programming
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a psychological approach that explores the relationships between how we think (neuro), how we communicate (linguistic), and our behavioral patterns (programming).
In the context of IBS, NLP techniques are used to help teenagers reframe negative thought patterns and beliefs about their symptoms, thereby reducing stress and anxiety. By changing the way they perceive and react to their condition, individuals can gain greater control over their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
NLP provides practical tools for teenagers to manage their IBS more effectively through positive thinking and behavior modification.
Guided Visualisation
Guided visualisation is a therapeutic technique that uses the power of the imagination to promote physical and emotional healing.
I have developed powerful and effective guided visualisations for teenagers suffering from IBS that focuses on realigning the mind-gut connection.
This practice helps to reduce stress, enhance relaxation, and can lead to tangible improvements in digestive health. Guided visualisation sessions provide a safe space for teenagers to explore and transform their inner experiences, fostering a sense of control and well-being.
EFT (Tapping)
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as tapping, is a form of psychological acupressure that combines elements of cognitive therapy and exposure therapy with physical tapping on acupressure points. Basically, it is like acupuncture but without the needles!
For teenagers with IBS, EFT helps to release emotional stress and reduce physical symptoms by tapping on specific points on the body while focusing on the symptoms or emotional challenges they are facing.
This method can help diminish the intensity of IBS symptoms, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of calm and balance. EFT is an empowering tool that teenagers can use anytime to manage their symptoms and emotional responses effectively.
