Fourteen cans a day. That's the staggering reality of one man's Pepsi Max addiction, a habit costing him a small fortune and affecting his health and sleep. But his story takes a dramatic turn, revealing the powerful role hypnotherapy played in shattering these chains of dependence.
Dean Gavin, a 52-year-old man from Bedworth, Warwickshire, successfully overcame a heavy addiction to Pepsi Max with the help of hypnotherapy. Dean's story highlights the potential of hypnotherapy in addressing deeply ingrained habits and their associated psychological factors.
Dean developed a 14-cans-a-day Pepsi Max habit after switching from full-fat Coke due to a diabetes diagnosis. While seeking a sugar-free alternative, he developed a strong psychological dependence on the fizzy drink. He reported feeling "edgy and wired" and experienced sleep disturbances, only sleeping two to three hours a night.

This typically illustrates how a change in circumstances (diabetes diagnosis) can lead to the development of a new, unhealthy coping mechanism. His case also demonstrates the link between substance dependence and other psychological issues, as his Tourette's tics worsened during his addiction.
Dean sought help through the means of hypnotherapy. After just one hypnotherapy session, Dean's cravings significantly reduced. He reported improved sleep, a reduction in tics, and a general feeling of being back in control.
The hypnotist helped Dean to realise that he really struggled with anxiety if he didn't drink Pepsi Max daily, highlighting the psychological component of his addiction.
